The Expansion of Cirone

The Plans. While King Medivianus rallied up a strike force to wage a war against his enemies (Minotaurs and Lightbringers), King Ulf the Second decided that it was the perfect timing to expand his empire on Cirone without the Imperial's knowledge. But a problem had arisen from the planning. The defence force would need to be increased to ensure no spies could penetrate the castle's walls and send word back to King Medivianus about Garrogat's plans. Although with all of the guards on duty, there was no one to work on the nearby island of Cirone. King Ulf the Second sent a messenger through the steamboat on Cirone to arrive as fast as possible in front of the Mittenhoff

leader Kruzak Dustbeard. Although not only did Daniel ask for Dwarves to help dig tunnels below Cirone, but also for a large quantity of the Dwarf’s steel. The steel was required to help create new sword and shields, helmets and armors for the Garrogat Defence, as well as to help build the structures that would infest the new Dwarven tunnels. He claimed that this steel must be of the highest quality in case word spread of the plans on Cirone and that they may go to war against the Thaian Empire. The only condition that Emperor Kruzak asked in return for his steel and aid in creating the tunnels was that he wanted the Dwarf kind to have residence in the tunnels.
The Construction. The Garrogat and Dwarf races had some difficulties while they constructed their new civilisation below Cirone. The humans believed that the Dwarfs were not pushing as hard as they could and were therefore slowing down the progress of the tunnels considerably. But the Dwarfs claimed that they were working as fast as possible and both sides started to become agitated in the midst of these claims. Soon enough this neutrality became stale and a division between the two sides was clearly forming. After 6 months of renovating the undergrounds of Cirone, King Ulf the Second was given word that the Thaian army was backing away from their fight and instead the tensions between the factions was turning into a cold war, both sides threatening the over with a new source of power although no real act was taken. Although while these factions were not attacking each other yet, the same could not be said for the Dwarf and Garrogat alliance. Rumours about each side planning to backstab the other were created and both races continued the project but with much caution. After another 2 months of working, the Dwarfs had completed their tunnelling project for the main section of the underground and Daniel sent in several guards to assist in constructing buildings in the newly created tunnels. Meanwhile the Dwarfs had an alternative motive and while digging in one of the smaller branches of the tunnel they created a hidden door where they focused their attention to creating another separate area for their own race to dwell inside of. After an additional 2 months Daniel, while feeling confident that the Thaian army (who were still gathering as much power as they could to assist in their war against the Minotaurs and the Lightbringers), then sent more of his guards into the mines to assist in speeding up his project. This move by the humans then gave the light they needed to notice that the Dwarfs were no longer working on their prior agreement and after 5 days of investigating where these workers were disappearing to, one of the Elite Guards discovered the hidden door and reported it to Steelsoul immediately. After hearing this he instantly gathered up a strike force and travelled to Cirone. With weapons armed and ready for action, the action was swift and within one day every Dwarf involved in the project was being held hostage while another messenger was sent to Emperor Kruzak once again to hear what his response to this was. Kruzak claimed that he had no idea of what his men were secretly doing in Cirone and insisted that his men be spared or it would be an act of war. After much time and deliberation, it was decided that Daniel would relinquish the Dwarfs he had kept hostage and his both sides continued to do what they were doing previously. The Garrogat defenders went back to the gates and the Dwarfs continued their project. The two leaders had come to a conclusion on the matter of the secret door. The Dwarfs would continue their excavation and whatever they did in that tunnel was their business, although the main tunnels would belong to the humans.
The Completion. After the Dwarfs had finished their digging, 37 came from Mittenhoff
via the steamship although after 6 months they had encountered many problems and the population had dived to a mere 14. Meanwhile the humans above had decided to harbor the remaining Dwarfs that agreed to live in harmony inside the Cirone base although, in the end, only 6 of the 14 Dwarfs agreed to live closer to the surface, while the other 8 pursued their endeavour to expand their section of the caves in the hopes that more would join the new expedition on Cirone. It was many months before anything happened. Normally the Dwarfs would send a signal to the above Dwarfs before they left each day to continue their mining and send another when they returned. Although on this particular day they had not yet returned. It was assumed that they were fine, just held up so the humans and the remaining Dwarfs waited another day, although when still no signal was sent back to them they mounted an investigation into the deeper sections of the caves.
The Disappearance. As the first few soldiers stepped through the door and began their descent into the tunnel, they began hearing strange noises. These noises were not like screams or wails of pain, but more like the roar of a lion only that lion was like a dragon that had the power of 5 dragons combined. This roar was only the start. As the remaining numbers started their descent into the entrance chamber, they saw fields of poison as well as blood stains that coated the walls and the floor of the chamber. None of the soldiers nor the Dwarfs had seen anything like it before. The group edged forward into the darkness that waited for them. As they entered the corridor linking the entrance to the main chamber they noticed several trails of blood on the walls. As they spotted the main chamber, one of the Dwarfs noticed a note that had been scratched at and left on the ground. The note read:
Get away n...
The rest had either been scratched or had blood splattered on it. One of the Soldiers -claimed it must be a warning to leave the area as fast as possible and many of the soldiers - instantly turned away and ran for the elevator chamber although Daniel commanded them to return and continue their investigation into the disappearance of the Dwarfs. As they returned on their true course, several more roars erupted from further in the tunnels. The soldiers lead the way, feeling like something may attack the collective. They made their way through the Iron gates and into the main chamber where it was seen that a fierce battle had occurred, with blood and Dwarf bodies decorating the room. As the soldiers and Dwarfs ran towards the corpses to determine if any were still living, a shadow entered the room. The shadow moved swiftly towards its prey and let out an ear deafening roar as it swiped at the soldiers who had formed a position to defend the Dwarfs. 8 Soldiers started backing off as 3 went flying into across the room where they were snatched up by smaller shadows and dragged into the darkness that covered the outskirts of the room. After seeing the power of this mysterious shadow Daniel called for the troops and Dwarfs to retreat back to the entrance chamber. As they turned and ran away, screams filled the room. Daniel turned back and he saw them being dragged away just like the first few soldiers. As the bodies disappeared into the darkness, so did the screams. The remaining people entered the elevator and began their ascent back to the above tunnels. The moment they exited the elevator Daniel ordered a permanent sentry around the elevator to make sure that none of the creatures could escape the tunnels and reach the surface where they would certainly bring havoc and destruction.
The Conclusion. Since that day when 8 of Garrogat’s Soldiers were lost in the investigation of the Dwarfs in the lower mines, there has been a constant guard around the Elevator that connects the lower mines to the above mines, which is the residence to many of the Garrogat citizens as well as 6 Dwarfs. A market has been set up on the island of Cirone because it has been growing ever since the expansion of the island was completed. Few people have ever gone back down into the lower mines to find the answer to what happened to the original Dwarf inhabitants, none survived.
