Bedmages

From Medivia Online Wiki

The basics

What we call a "Bedmage" is a character used for offline mana regeneration, a bedmage can be logged out into a bed and left offline to regenerate mana while you play your other characters,
many people make two to three or even five or more bedmages to keep up a good supply of runes for their main character (or even just to make some extra money).

Bedmages can be either the classic Mage (Mage/Druid) for runemaking or the less popular Archer, for making Burst Arrows.

A month of premium per slot expansion and all the money you spend to get your character to level 50 may seem like a waste, but it pays off in the long run and provides a more comfortable playstyle.

There is a limit of characters than can be in bed on the whole account. (4 per account)

Requirements

Two requirements must be met in order for a character to be able to use a bed:

  • Level 50
  • Premium account

Note: Keep in mind that each account only has 8 character slots when it is created, in order to add extra character slots you will have to pay 30 premium days for each new slot,
this can be done through [your account page].

Regeneration

A character will regenerate 1 mana every 10 seconds while sleeping or 6 mana every minute.
Regular food such as Ham and Herrings can fill you up for a maximum time of 20 minutes or what we call "100% full".
When it comes to bedmages, you would ideally want to be able to leave your character offline to regenerate as long as possible to minimise relogging frequency.

The way to achieve longer regeneration times is through the use of food such as:

The best way to make use of these foods is to combine them with regular food to get a long regeneration time but still keep it as cheap/efficient as possible.
Combinations can be calculated by taking the regeneration times of certain foods and adding them up.
When adding up keep in mind the cap for regular foods is 1200 seconds, 2400 seconds for Dragon Ham and 3600 seconds for Frozen Ham.
Lower regen cap foods should always be eaten before the higher cap ones as they cannot be eaten after their threshold.

Some examples of viable food combinations (should be eaten in the order displayed):

  • 8 Fish.png + 1 Dragon Ham.gif  = 31 minutes - 186 mana - a cheap combination;
  • 1 Dragon Ham.gif + 3 Dragon Ham.gif  = 39 minutes - 234 mana - a quick and lazy combination (even just 3x Dragon Ham);
  • 5 Fish.png + 2 Dragon Ham.gif + 1 Frozen Ham.gif  = 56 minutes - 336 mana, arguably the most efficient combination;
  • 2 Ham.gif + 2 Dragon Ham.gif + 1 Frozen Ham.gif  = 56 minutes - 336 mana, a variation on the most efficient combination

Leveling a bedmage

There are many possible methods of leveling a bedmage, the following is a very straight-forward one which you can adapt for your own needs:

  • Get level 8 at the Wolf spawn north of the city of Novus;
  • Get a good 20-25+ armor set (e.g. Blue Robe, Steel Helmet, Plate Legs, Boots of Haste, Demon Shield)
    and a War Hammer or Dragon Lance for the first 2 tasks, then switch to a shield in later stages;
  • Do the Rotworm Task in the Osaris Rotworm Cave (Map.png), this will get you to level 13 or 14;
  • Now do the Wasp Task in the Wasp Cave near Ab'Dendriel (Map.png), this will get you to level 19,
    you may as well keep killing Wasps until level 20 so you can buy a promotion, it won't take long;
  • At this point the quick method would be to buy a bunch of Mana Fluids and Blank Runes and just make Heavy Magic Missiles until you get to around Magic Level 30.
    If you don't want to waste, you can spend a few days manasitting or you can use Rings of Healing;
  • Once you're happy with your Magic Level, you can either go straight to a Tomb (Blood -4 or -5/Dream -3 or -4, depending on whether you're solo or with a blocker),
    you will probably use between 55-70 backpacks of Great Fireballs to get from level 20 to level 50,
    even more if you choose to do it solo, if you would like to get some more levels before venturing into a tomb carry on to the next step;
  • Pick up the Revenant Task and take both your main character and your bedmage to the Pits of Inferno Revenant spawn (obviously not at the same time, you will have to relog),
    the method here is to get all the Revenants to low health with your main character without killing them, then re-log to your bedmage and finish them off with HMM's,
    this way your bedmage will get all the experience from the kill as well as the task reward at the end, this will get you to about level 35;
  • Now you can move on to Tombs until level 50. If you can find a blocker, Blood Tomb -5 or Dream Tomb -4 will get you to level 50 quickly and efficiently at 400-500k/h,
    if you want to do it alone Dream Tomb -3 or Blood Tomb -4 are a fairly safe option that will get you to maybe 300k/h or more.
    You can also grab the Slime, Crypt Shambler or Ghoul task for Dream Tomb; or the Ghost, Eye of Shadow or Vampire task for Blood tomb;
    this will cheapen/speed up the process somewhat.
  • Get in a bed!
